According to the international standards, now Pakistani students can also get mental health support via new program launched by higher education commission Pakistan. Mental health, stress management is a big issue worldwide specially for the students during their college and university time. According to the WHO “Globally, it is estimated that one in seven (14%) of 10–19-year-olds experience mental health conditions, yet these remain largely unrecognized and untreated.”
Main issues are emotional disorders, behavioral and eating disorders, psychosis, suicide and self harm and other risk taking behaviors.
“Coping with Mental Health” stands for the National Youth Helpline as a strategic, multisectoral effort to provide Pakistani youth with access to confidential counseling, emotional support, and information services supported by government, donor organizations, and university infrastructures. Early metrics and encouraging success stories prove that it fills a gaping hole, on call at a time.
“Islamabad, November 1, 2022: Under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, the National Youth Helpline with a toll-free number 0800-69457 was launched at Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat to provide psychosocial support and counseling to the young people. “

The helpline offers a balanced team of psychologists, both male and female, to provide psychosocial first-aid, referral support, coaching on stress management, emotional counseling, and education/career advice when needed. It operates two shifts a day to maximize availability. HEC is collaborating with public university youth development centers to create integrated in-person follow-up support nationwide, even though it presently only offers phone service.
“The initiative is a collaborative effort taken under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, wherein HEC, United Nations Family Planning Association, and Rahnuma-Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP) have partnered to extend psychosocial support to the youth facing multifarious challenges with regard to mental health.”
